June 18, 2018 – Jenny Craig, one of the leading commercial weight loss chains, is customizing its nutrition plans to a client’s genetic make-up. This new gene-based offering is entering the second phase of testing, with plans to expand nationwide. Jenny Craig claims to be the first national commercial weight loss company to integrate DNA testing into its weight loss plans. Through genetic testing, Jenny Craig will, among other things, look to optimize members’ weight loss results by matching their genes to the best nutritional program for them.
The DNA test, which will be an optional offering for Jenny Craig members, is simple and consists of a relatively non-invasive cheek swab to identify a member’s unique genetic makeup. Based on the results, a customized nutrition plan is recommended, and company consultants then share and discuss the results with each member in a one-on-one setting.
No information has yet been provided about the cost for this additional service. However, most home test kits for DNA used by other companies are usually priced in the range of $100.
